As part of the 2016 London Design Festival, acclaimed silversmith Rebecca de Quin will be demonstrating her technique of quilting silver to create her unique pieces. Come along to the V&A’s Silver Galleries, ask questions and find out how one of Britain’s leading silversmiths creates her work.
Rebecca de Quin is well known for her architectural forms created either for practical use or decorative display. She makes one off pieces for exhibition and to commission and small batch production items for sale through shops and galleries. Designs include tableware and sculpural works that explore the traditions of silversmithing in relation to ‘the vessel’. She is represented in a number of UK collections including those of the Crafts Council and Goldsmiths’ Company. She has also been a tutor at the Royal College of Art since 1998.
This event complements the Silver Speaks: ‘Idea to Object’ exhibition at the V&A, and Silver Speaks: ‘Form’ exhibition at the Goldsmiths’ Centre also part of the London Design Festival programme. A catalogue for each event is available to purchase in the V&A shops, at the Goldsmiths’ Centre or online.
The London Design Festival is an annual event, held to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world and as the gateway to the international creative community. The dates for this year’s Festival are 17-25 September 2016.
