The principal source of inspiration for Nan Nan Liu, is nature, especially naturally occurring shapes and repetitive patterns.

She is fascinated by the unpredictable forms that water can take and the emotional response it can evoke. Nan Nan took a series of photographs of moving water on which to base her design. Initially she worked by layering paper to create three-dimensional forms.

She built up single layers of silver in an organic manner, allowing the form to have a life of its own, rather like water. Layers of silver wire were hammered and soldered together to create the final form.
