Hamish Dobbie was inspired by the ‘aggressive’ hexagonal geological formations of Fingal’s Cave on the island of Staffa.
Hamish worked from images, drawing shapes and forms as well as reflecting on the scale of elements used in previous works. He made hexagonal wax components, rebuilding them in different configurations to achieve the right shape. Wax allowed him to create almost instant 3D sketches. He built ten such models before he decided on this one, which creates the feeling he wished to evoke. 3D Printing, Soldering, Casting and Hand Construction.
